The trailhead for this short but outstanding walk is at the Bow Summit car park, on the Icefields Parkway 42km north of Lake Louise.

If you are lucky enough to complete this walk on a clear day you will be more than rewarded with the sensational views. This loop connects to an upper lookout which is much less crowded than the lower one and has better views. The lake itself gets its gorgeous turquoise green colour from glacial silt deposited by the Peyto Glacier which can also be viewed from the upper lookout. On the day of the walk we were walking through packed snow which was a little slippery at times. Caution was needed on the descent.
