As today’s forecast was for rain we decided a trip to the local limestone caves would be a good option. After more fabulous platypus watching at the Mole Creek Caravan Park this morning we drove the short distance to the cave. Marakoopa Cave is located in Mole Creek Karst National Park and is a guided cave. Today Ben was leading the tour.

Before leaving Honeycomb Cave campsite we decided to explore the other cave near the campground, Wet Cave. It was indeed wet so we took our Crocs with us and removed our shoes close to the entrance. We also took one hiking pole each for extra assistance because you never know how slippery the surfaces may be.

After the excitement of completing Devonport parkrun and being surrounded by world-class athletes with the World Series Triathlon being staged there, we travelled via the small township of Caveside to Mole Creek Karst National Park and the Honeycomb Caves Campsite.

This walk is in the Douglas-Aspley National Park, named after the two rivers, the Douglas and the Aspley, that flow through it. The walk is in the most easily accessible, southern section. The last 6km of road from the highway is on a reasonable quality dirt road but quite narrow in places.

After driving up from the South Coast to Blackheath this morning we found ourselves enjoying an early lunch at Blackheath and contemplating our afternoon activities. Sue pulled out the March 6, Sydney Morning Herald Traveller section, which was subtitled “Think you know the Blue Mountains”. In this article, we noted that local photographer Gary Hayes had recommended Jinki Ridge as his favourite local walk.
