Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
On our last trip this way we arrived at the Porcupine Rocks Track trailhead to find it closed for the day. National Parks had a helicopter ferrying in bags of gravel along the track for planned track work. Today we ran into two work parties each working on new metal gratingbehind tapped of sections we detoured around.
Monday 21/02/2022 Cascade Trail Carpark – Dead Horse Gap Walking Trail – Kosciuszko Trail – Eagles Nest
Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Ngarigo Country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
We started the day purchasing a two year National Parks Pass for our brand new Trakkadu campervan and grabbing some last-minute groceries. Departing Jindabyne we were on our way with the aim of getting in several day walks and having our first sleep on the new van, three nights at Nagiraro Campground. After claiming a campsite (by pitching a two-man tent for the snorer in the family) we drove up the Thredbo Valley to Cascade Trail Carpark, arriving about 11:00am.
Monday 7/03/2022 Childowla Trail – Barrenjack Trail – Barrenjack Walk – Barren Jack Geodetic Station
Burrinjuck Nature Reserve, NSW
Ngunawal Country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies, Geri Louis, Dave Whitelaw
Amongst road cycles, running, tennis games, frisbee golf, bird spotting and kayaking activities four of our mid-week party staying at Burrinjuck managed a walk up to Barrenjack Mountain. We drove up to and parked before the locked gate at the end of Childowla Trail, with the Link Trail(Hume and Hovell track) starting on the other side of the road.
On Childowla Trail we were surprised to encounter a National Parks vehicle heading out to do some work. For a good length of this section we disturbed a multitude of butterflies, often dozens at a time, that fluttered around as they were disturbed. It was a pity that they were too small to adequately capture a picture to do the scene justice. We also noted several different bird species, mostly from their song.

Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Ngarigo Country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
As Pallaibo Walking Trail was closed along the Thredbo River from Thredbo River Picnic Area to Gaden Trout Hatchery for track work, we instead departed from the Hatchery car park. Nestled on the Thredbo River there is a large, well maintained grassy picnic area with great access for water play.

A wet night at Ngarigo campground didn’t deter us from our morning activities. As Sue was training for the upcoming Mount Stromlo Trail Running event she headed off on a 10km run towards Thredbo Diggings Campground whilst I walked towards Thredbo along the Thredbo Valley Track.
Tuesday 22/02/2022 Cascade Trail Carpark – Cascade Trail – Thredbo River – Bobs Ridge – Cascade Creek – Cascade Hut
Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Ngarigo Country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
It was a very cool summer night last night at Nagiro Campsite, the morning greeting us with low clouds. On our arrival at the Cascade Trail Carpark we wondered what was going on as a convoy of four, four wheel drive vehicles joined us at the same time as three motor cyclists.
Friday 23/04/2021 Jamison Lookout – Princes Rock Lookout Track – Undercliff Track – Fletchers Lookout – Wentworth Falls Lookout – National Pass Track – Slacks Stairs – Jamison Creek
Blue Mountains National Park, NSW
Dharug Country
Participants: Beth Davies, Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies, Pablo Ureña Vega
This walk turned out to be much shorter than we would have liked as the National Pass Track was closed at the track junction at Slacks Stairs. Despite this closure, it would still provide us with the opportunity to introduce Pablo to some cliff walking in the Blue Mountains.
Wednesday 21/04/2021 Bells Line of Road – Jinki Ridge – Dalpura Creek
Blue Mountains National Park, NSW
Dharug Country
Participants: Beth Davies, Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies, Pablo Ureña Vega
After driving up from the South Coast to Blackheath this morning we found ourselves enjoying an early lunch at Blackheath and contemplating our afternoon activities. Sue pulled out the March 6, Sydney Morning Herald Traveller section, which was subtitled “Think you know the Blue Mountains”. In this article, we noted that local photographer Gary Hayes had recommended Jinki Ridge as his favourite local walk.
Monday 2/08/2021 Maloneys Bay – Bushrangers Bay– Beaky Cove
Bass Point Reserve,
Shellharbour LGA, NSW
Tharawal Country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
Being in CoVid lockdown we were restricted to exercising within our LGA. Bass Point Nature Reserve fitted the bill, so off we went for a short walk that we have completed many times before.
Wednesday 11/08/2021 Cascades Rainforest Walk – Cascade Falls – Clover Hill Road – Macquarie Rivulet
Macquarie Pass National Park, NSW
Tharawal Country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
We were looking for some relief from our CoVid lockdown within our LGA. To achieve this we set out with the idea of hiking the Cascades Rainforest Walk before heading on and upward to join Clover Hill Road and walk back via Macquarie Rivulet. The reality turned out to be very different, I really should start looking up current National Parks closures!
Participants: Beth Davies, Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies, Christie Stewart, Kerrie Stewart, Lisa Stewart, Stephanie Stewart
Beth had a rare day off, nor had she ever completed the Kiama to Gerringong walk so we decided to make the most of it. The weather forecast was optimal we decided December 29th was the day to do it.
