Friday 14/08/2020 Belmore Falls – Fitzroy Falls
Morton National Park, NSW
Tharawal country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
We may have been a little late but after an east coast low dropped a lot of rain over the area recently, we thought it would be a good time to revisit these waterfalls and check out all the walking available around them.

Our first port of call for the day was Belmore Falls on Yarrawa Creek, not far south of Robertson along Belmore Falls Road on the border between Morton National Park and Yarrawa State Forest. From the carpark we walked to Hindmarsh Lookout from where there are fantastic views north-east along Burrawang Creek and south towards to Kangaroo Valley. A little further around at Belmore Falls Lookout the views of the falls are brilliant. Very little walking at these falls, about 1km all up and no facilities.
Fitzroy Falls
Max elevation: 685 m
Total climbing: 798 m
Total descent: -800 m
Average speed: 4.23 km/h
Total time: 04:28:14
Fitzroy Falls was next, a short drive from Belmore Falls. Here there is the opportunity for a longer walk, taking you through some very pleasant forest near the cliff-line on both sides of the falls. We started from the Parks Office carpark and walked towards the east, taking in the views from May Lookout, Warragong Lookout, Lamond Lookout, Valley View Lookout and Yarrunga Lookout before continuing further on to have look at Fitzroy Canal from the road bridge. After returning the way we came we continued on to the west side after a lunch break.
On the western side there is Fitzroy Falls Lookout, Richardson Lookout, Twin Falls Lookout, Twin Falls, Starkeys Lookout and Renown Lookout to take in. The Grotto allows you to walk behind the falls for a different perspective. All lookouts in the area overlook Yarrunga Creek below and have views to Mount Carrialoo in the south.
There is a National Parks Office at Fitzroy Falls with a shop, food service and toilet facilities.
