This trail is a lesser known walk in the Great Western Tiers area. We only knew about it when we drove past yesterday on our way to Pine Lake. With a two hour return time frame, we felt we could do it in the afternoon following our Quamby Bluff morning walk.

We awoke to a fiery sunrise and decided to complete the local short walks before moving on. This World Heritage Area has impressive landscapes and unique vegetation and wildlife. Lake Osborne is a glacial lake formed about 18,000 years ago. A gently climbing boardwalk through Myrtle rainforest across the Hartz Plateau leads to this picturesque glacial lake.

With a bit of spare time, we decided to do this short walk after completing the Liffey Falls trail. This is a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk through the alpine landscape to a perched lake. It is signposted with information about the landscape, vegetation and history. The ancient pencil pines were impressive along with the hardy alpine plants.

Our original plan for the day was to tackle Quamby Bluff, a 4 to 5-hour return walk providing panoramic views of the Central Plateau and Great Western Tiers. However, as we reached the trailhead the cloud and mist remained low and we felt we might be wasting our time. An alternative was to drive a bit further and walk to Liffey Falls.

Our start was a little slow this morning after our big Mount Anne walk yesterday and decided to change campgrounds to Mount Field National Park (first in gets a spot). After organising a lovely spot by the river we headed up the road towards Lake Dobson, only 16km but about half an hour on a winding dirt road.
