The two rustic cabins we occupied had been entirely handmade by Jorge and his wife, including most of the furniture and fittings. Jorge also owned the small sawmill next door and had set up his own small hydroelectricity plant and produced power for his own property and sawmill.

After dark Jorge also volunteered to take us for a night walk along his riverside track. Here we were constantly stopping to examine the many varieties of spiders.

Eriophora fuliginea – a member of Typical Orbweavers (Subfamily Araneinae)

Golden Silk Spider (Trichonephila clavipes)

Early the next morning I walked the same short trail again now barely able to see any spider activity.

As I emerged from the forest Cal pointed out a sloth in a large tree adjacent to the outdoor eating area. We were happy to spend time observing it as it rested before making a move, climbing partway down the tree before disappearing behind the thick canopy of a smaller tree below.

Next homemade yoghurt, fresh fruit and pancakes were served to us for breakfast.

Whilst we were there we saw:

Insects: Peanut-headed Bug, Golden Silk Spider, Raspy Crickets, Typical Orbweaver, Cosmetid Harvestmen, amongst other unidentified species

Reptiles: Brilliant Forest Frog, Poison dart frog, Blue jean frog

Mammals: Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth
