So you thought it would be too cold? A pleasant 10 degrees outside and 22 inside Steve and Sue’s (trip leader) Davies car as we wound our way up Jamberoo Pass. Ninety minutes later the three of us climbed out into a crisp 5 degrees at the Long Point car park.

Morton National Park, NSW
Yuin country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Leader), Sue Davies, Helen Crom, Dave Whitelaw (Report), Fred Zicker.
I hadn’t been into Monolith Valley since the eighties and was keen on seeing its marvellous sandstone features again. An earlier departure from Wollongong on Friday than normal, allowed for an al fresco dinner at our start point on Long Gully Rd. We were snug in our sleeping bags by the time Fred arrived. A predicted hot day ensured Trish, Sue and myself endeavoured to keep cool under trees or in water, hence our trip selection. An interesting diversion (bush bash) was taken along the southern side of Waterfall Gully Creek after the trail was lost at what looked like a creek crossing. We re-emerged onto the road at the junction of Coutts Creek, the trail and the road.

A 15 minute delay with road resurfacing near Cooma airport. Jindabyne at 11:00am, spillway in action with environmental flow release designed to flush out sediment etc in Snowy River. The weather remained overcast all the way down but mostly blue sky and a light breeze on arrival at Perisher Valley. Continue reading →
Left Barrack Point 7:07am arrived Guthega about 2:00pm. Was overcast with occasional showers.
Bruce Easton at Wilderness Sports recommended Guthega, so I bought a map and was off. Changed and packed at Island Bend campsite. Dropped off my pack at Guthega before driving 1km back to the overnight carpark and walked back. Looking forward to my first trip on with new skis, boots and skins. Continue reading →
Sunday 1/05/2011 Sassafras – Bhundoo Hill – Clyde River – Rixons Coal Mine return
Morton National Park, NSW
Yuin country
Participants: Lee Cordner (Leader), Sue Davies (Report), Steve Davies (Photos), Clifford Nowicki and Will Reynolds (South Coast BWC) plus Lani Imhoff and Michael Smith (Shoalhaven BWC)
We commenced this fantastic day trip on a cool crisp morning. Due to the consistent rain in the previous week the drive through several locked gates was challenging as some of the puddles of water were up to the car number plates and there were sections that were very slippery. As Will was the only driver with a two wheel drive, he chose to leave his car and bike the last kilometre to the car park where the rest of us commenced the ride. At this stage, after riding through the mud and pooled rainwater he was regretting his decision to wear a white T shirt that day.
16/08/2008 – 17/08/2008 Dead Horse Gap – South Rams Head Range
Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Ngarigo country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Leader, Photos), Emily Whitelaw (Report), Nick “Schnick” Whitelaw
We met at Steve’s at 1700 on Friday and began the long drive down. It seemed things were against our skiing this weekend. Some people had had to pull out of the trip due to injury and other commitments, and then things continued as the weekend progressed. Just before Canberra Steve pulled over because something felt funny. Sure enough we had a flat (caused by a nail), though luckily the spare was accessible and we managed a quick change. The rest of the drive to Jindy was uneventful, reaching Nuggets Crossing at 2330, just in time to get our skis, stocks and boots from Wilderness Sports ($60 for 2 days). We continued on the last leg of the drive out to Thredbo Diggings (Bullocks Flat) where we set up the tent and were asleep by 2330.
