Wednesday 11/08/2021 Cascades Rainforest Walk – Cascade Falls – Clover Hill Road – Macquarie Rivulet
Macquarie Pass National Park, NSW
Tharawal Country
Participants: Stephen Davies (Photos, Report), Sue Davies
We were looking for some relief from our CoVid lockdown within our LGA. To achieve this we set out with the idea of hiking the Cascades Rainforest Walk before heading on and upward to join Clover Hill Road and walk back via Macquarie Rivulet. The reality turned out to be very different, I really should start looking up current National Parks closures!

This is a delightful short walk along The Cascades Stream up to Cascade Falls. It was delightful just being out in a forest for a while so were in no hurry, checking out several spots along the way for different views of the stream. Although the Cascade Falls are only fairly small, once again it was just wonderful being able to get close to a waterfall.
Our plan to continue past the falls was thwarted, as there was a prominent sign in the middle of the track stating it was closed. Anyway, we still enjoyed the return walk and noted this would be a great option on a hot day.
Returning to the car park at the bottom of Macquarie Pass we crossed the road so we could head up to Jump Rock. Our second problem, the gate was locked and another sign prohibiting entry had blocked another option.

Undeterred we drove up Macquarie Pass a little way to park at the end of Clover Hill Road. The track, once being a road, is wide and follows the contour line to Macquarie Rivulet. For a third time, we were met with signage barring our way!
After a quick look at the waterfall we returned to the car satisfied to breathe a little fresh air and take in some forest and waterway scenery. A little more exercise would have been even better.
