Description: [128km  2h 17 minutes – north from FD8 thru Falls Creek to Mt Beauty, west along Tawonga Gap Road, then to Porepunkah via Bright, at Porepunkah south along Buckland Valley Road & Selwyn Creek Road to FD8]

Road Closures and Warnings:

The Drive In: On Selwyn Creek Road, the bridge across Dingo Creek was closed due to construction work. The work was almost finished and the new bridge should be open very soon. There is a detour of about 2km further south with this water crossing of Dingo Creek. The water is 20cm deep with a good surface. This is the most difficult part of the whole road. Otherwise, Selwyn Creek Rd is a 2WD road all the way. Usually it would take about 2hours to drive from Porepunkah to FD8. In hindsight, today, I could have driven my 2WD across this water crossing.

The Walk to the Food Drop Location: The tubs are located 200m downhill from the gap at the highest point of the Selwyn Creek Road (marked by the tent icon), down the dead-end overgrown trail heading southeast. 30m before the first log across the track, turn left (a blackberry vine extends to the middle of the trail) and go uphill 20m.

The Closest Water and Camping: There is a great water source (and small campsite) at the end of the 700m long, overgrown, dead-end track extending downhill southeast from the saddle at the highest point of the Selwyn Creek Road. There is a faded wooden sign saying “water” nailed to a tree at the saddle. The brook is clean and flowing with ample water during this particularly dry moment, with recent bushfire activity nearby.
