The trailhead for this scenic walk is located near the Columbia Icefields 100km south of Jasper at the entrance to the Wilcox Creek Campground. On a clear day you can expect to see expansive views of the Athabasca Glacier and the Columbia Icefields but be prepared to share the trail with wildlife including mountain sheep.

Due to the icy trail conditions we decided to just hike up to the iconic “red chairs”. It was a bit slippery on the way up so our hiking poles came in handy. We walked through beautiful meadows and were observed by mountain sheep grazing between patches of snow. From the chairs we had an outstanding view of the Athabasca Glacier and the surrounding glaciated peaks. In better conditions a hike up to the pass would be outstanding.
