Saturday 27/10/1984   Charlotte Pass

Yesterday I packed from scratch and was ready to go by 5:45pm in Greg’s Laser. John Meehan travelled independently and arrived at Island Bend about midnight.

By morning there was still no sign Ian and Michelle who were supposed to be joining us from Dubbo. With the rain commencing, we just got our gear packed away in time. We arrived at Charlotte Pass with about 15 other vehicles present, many siting in their cars watching the weather.

With constant light wet drizzle falling, we eventually got out for a ski in our goretex jackets but it was still very wet and distinctly unpleasant. Surprisingly the quantity of snow remaining was not much less than a fortnight ago.

As the weather looked set in, we turned around and lunched on the Thredbo River in shelter huts before driving home, arriving at 6:15pm, with light rain falling all the way back. So much for the weather forecast of being fine until a wet change on Sunday.

We found out later that Ian and Michelle had got as far as Yass before they discovered that neither of them had brought any money with them, so they turned around and drove back to Dubbo.
