Total climbing: 983 m
Total descent: -943 m
Average speed: 4.32 km/h
Total time: 06:48:05
The next morning two groups set out to commemorate the anniversary. The larger group set of towards Currockbilly Mountain to re-enact the club’s first walk, whilst our smaller group opted for an easier walk to Corang Peak and back.
The keen day walkers arrived bright and early and the two groups had both set off before 9:00am. It was a lovely clear, spring morning.
We made reasonable progress as the track condition was favourable. We reached the turn off for the Goodsell Creek track where we briefly considered changing the destination for the day. The majority decided to press on as some members had not previously reached Corang Peak and the weather was ideal at that stage.
Corang Peak from Corang Plateau
After a couple of hours walking across the Corang Plateau, and a short foray by some onto the track which heads around the south side of Corang Peak, we reached the summit of cairned summit Corang Peak. The views were pleasant and extensive in all directions but unfortunately the wind was not so after a quick lunch we commenced our return journey. Even though this was the easy option we still walked 21km for the day. We arrived back at Wog Wog by 4:00pm.
Most adjourned for dinner at the Nerriga pub. An enjoyable day was had by all.
