Day 1: Saturday 15/12/1984 Mount Kiera
A weekend spent at Mount Kiera for a basic rock climbing course run by Steve. Our group consisted of Anders, Stephen Davies (Photos, Report) and Peter Davies.
We were started on the Grand Traverse, before doing four other routes top roped. Wore tight fitting volley sand shoes which seemed to work well. Didn’t fall off until after lunch when a layback to get over a small overhang was required. None of us quite figured out how to handle that manouvre.
The forearms were very sore by the end of the day. They are not worked in this way often but are very important for hanging onto rock.
Day 2: Sunday 16/12/1984 Mount Kiera
Back onto Mount Keira where we did “Dental Floss” and “Kindergarten” (by far the most exposed climb of the weekend). We also did some figure of eight abseiling and ascending using Jummars.
