Morton National Park, NSW
Yuin country
Distance: 39km Total Ascent:1870 m Total Descent: 1870m
Participants: Stephen Davies (Report), John Meehan, Lance, Bruce Bowman, Jo Slattery
After picking John Meehan, Lance, Bruce and Jo up by 7:30pm we were heading south. After a couple of beers at the Leprechaun Hotel we drove through and camped alongside the car in the tent by the side of the road. An amazingly fortunate choice of campsite as all the tent pegs went in very easily and remained firm all night.

An early start with cereal and dried fruit followed by croissants with ham and cheese. About three hours walk to Folly Point and another two to Hollands Creek. A wrong turn at Kilpatrick Creek saw us lost up the creek for a couple of hours where we came to a block up that we tried to go around, before climbing up to a higher point to try to see where we were before retreating and following Kilpatrick Creek back onto Holland Creek, all with abundant leeches for company.
Camped near Angel Creek under flies. Peppercorn chicken with sour cream, port and rice made for a delicious evening meal.
The fine, hot day included two refreshing skinny dips.

Another very hot fine day. We followed the ridge up alongside Angel Creek to Mount Tarn where we had lunch. This section was very slowly as John was suffering the effects of too much port last night.
Mount Houghton past Pagoda Rocks over Styles Creek, through the Vines to the car at 5:30pm and into the beer. Feet feeling very hot and blistered, calves and quads very sore from all the ups (2,300’) and downs.
Encountered a red-bellied black snake, flightless native cockroaches, grazing wallabies but not too many birds. Plenty of wildflowers.
